Labour-run North East Derbyshire District Council is currently preparing a new Local Plan, which will decide where housing and development takes place across our area over the next 15–20 years.
This has been driven by the Labour Government’s decision to significantly increase housing targets — meaning the District is now expected to plan for around 12,000 new homes. As a result, the Council is consulting on:
- The overall strategy for where development should go (towns vs villages etc), and
- A refined list of potential development sites, including a number of sites in the green belt and on green fields
This is an important stage in the process, and local residents can still influence what happens next.
